GroupMe is a free group-messaging app. Think of it as one big text thread that doesn't need anybody's phone number. You make an account, tap the invite, and you're in the room with everyone else.
It works on iPhone, Android, or a plain web browser on your computer. Nothing important gets buried, and nobody has to pass around a phone list.
